A rare and captivating example of French Marian devotion, this bust of the Crowned Virgin—crafted from beeswax in the early 19th century—is distinguished by its delicate sculptural presence and exceptional iconography.
The model draws inspiration from the renowned image of the Virgin venerated at the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière in Lyon (see reference in the final image). The depiction of the Madonna wearing a crown is a particularly interesting detail; in many other versions of this subject, the Virgin is typically shown veiled.
The surface retains traces of the original polychromy, offering valuable insight into the piece's history and its initial color scheme. The bust is in excellent condition, featuring a patina that enhances its historical character and authenticity.
