A pair of traditional lotus flower arrangements for Buddhist altars, known as *Jyôka*, dating from approximately 1900–1920. These permanent floral arrangements were displayed on home and temple Buddhist altars as symbolic offerings.

The arrangements feature lotus buds, open blossoms, and broad leaves set upon slender metal stems. The floral elements are carved from wood and finished with lacquer mixed with gold dust, creating a warm, luminous surface. The flowers are held in black-finished metal vases, containing bundles of traditional straw to secure the stems.

The lotus emerges clean and beautiful from muddy waters and is one of Buddhism's most important symbols, representing purity and spiritual awakening. The juxtaposition of open flowers, developing buds, and mature leaves evokes the continuous cycle of life and enlightenment.
