A small and fascinating artifact of the Sinhalese writing tradition, this *Puskola Poth* belongs to the category of palm-leaf manuscripts—an ancient method of preserving and transmitting knowledge that was widespread in Sri Lanka and other regions of South Asia.
Locally known as *ola-leaf manuscripts*, these documents were created by preparing and smoothing thin palm leaves, upon which the text was incised using a metal stylus. The incisions could subsequently be darkened to make the writing more legible.
The tradition of palm-leaf manuscripts is deeply intertwined with the literary and religious culture of Sri Lanka, where these materials were used to preserve Buddhist texts, literary works, and traditional knowledge.
