The painting depicts a splendid landscape depicted in the most typical Flemish tradition, where a wide variety of figures walk along the road beside a river. The scene is imbued with that inimitable fairytale aura that made the Belgian and Dutch masters famous. Indeed, the work takes us directly to that group of artists who looked to the extraordinary works of the Teniers father and son, and in particular David Teniers II "the Younger."
